HAI Celebrates "Green Week" 5th - 10th June 2010

On the 5th of June 2010 that is the "World Environment Day" this year, Hotel Association of India launched the 13th Green Week Celebrations at all its member hotels.

On each day of the week starting from the 5th of June through till 10th June 2010, the member hotels did it all to show their commitment to Environment Protection - greening of their lobbies , helping their gardeners, wearing green ribbons and flags, displaying banners and posters, canvas writing, planting trees, shutting off air conditioners for an hour each day of the week, organizing cleaning drives and more.

Complete Involvement by refreshing the importance of the Saving the Mother Earth amongst guests, associates , vendors and the community at large through competitions, workshops, environment walks, screening of movies and giving green gifts has become an integral part of the annual celebrations and was undertaken with sincerity and enthusiasm this year as well.

While each and every effort counts, a few have been highlighted.A significant drive this year was the cleaning of the Jalmahal by the Trident Hotel in Jaipur.

The Taj Environment Walk and the distribution of Taj Eco stickers by the Jaimahal Palace Hotel in Jaipur were well received by the pink city and found many supporters among motorists and walkers alike.

Amaltaas seeds and potted jade plants were gifted by The Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur while jute bags were distributed in large numbers at a nominal price of Rs.10 per bag at the Hotel Taj President in Mumbai.T-shirts carrying the message "Many Species- One Planet-One Future" were distributed freely to the associates at the same property.

A unique element in this year's Celebrations was added by Hotels Trident Bandra Kurla ; Trident Jaipur, the Taj President Mumbai and Hotel Jai Mahal Palace Jaipur. The four hotels served a "green lunch" to all its employees .While the buffet lunch served on the 5th of June at the Trident Jaipur brought home the importance of zero food wastage, the Green Lunch at Trident Bandra and Taj President had green dishes .The lunch at Jai Mahal Palace was prepared by using Organic Herbs from the hotel’s Herb Garden .

A poem titled "Go Green" was written by Abhyudaya Verma of the F&B Service at Hotel Trident Jaipur. It stresses the fragility of the Earth and the damaging impact of human action on it.

Movies screened included "Story of Stuff" and "2012".

While we would love to detail the activities at close to 300 inspired member hotels that participated in the celebrations, we can only produce a snap shot of some green moments at a few of the member hotels as follows.
